The clinic will be held on Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010 starting at 9am at Ohadi Ranch in Caldwell, ID. All levels welcome! All breeds welcome! If you're interested or know someone who might be, you'll want to get your entries in ASAP. People have been waiting on this entry form, so the working spots will fill quickly. We will not be cashing checks until the week before the clinic. Audit spots are unlimited.

New Year's Fun Day

Hi everyone -

If you've been following the blog, you might notice that the Christmas dinner has been taken off calendar. I did that. If you're mad, yell at me. We didn't plan for it, and people will be out of town, and pushing it closer to Christmas didn't make sense. There's also a trial that weekend. (Good luck to everyone running!!! We want a full report with photos!)

For the third year running (fourth? ... I don't remember), Gem State Herding is having their annual New Years Fun Day! There are courses set up in the various arenas, there will be sheep and ducks available to work, Janie opens up her garage and we throw a fire pit in there, and we'll be providing a potato bar for lunch! The last few years, we've gotten really lucky with the weather, so we're hoping for the same this year.

We will have bottled water available. Please feel free to bring your own "refreshments" ... any leftover EWAK (Eggnog With A Kick) is always welcome!

$20 per dog all day. Instinct tests: $25.

AHBA Trial Pre-Entry Deadline

Just a reminder - the deadline to get your pre-entries in for the fall AHBA trial is this Friday, Oct. 19th.

Lots of Herding in Idaho!

Well, the schedule is getting packed! Lots of different events going on!

First off, of course, is our Halloween AHBA trial. We're very excited about this, as we have handlers coming from quite a ways away, including Utah and Oregon and Montana.

October 10th ... come on out to Hidden Springs, Idaho! Gem State Herding will be doing herding demonstrations for the Dry Creek Historical Society. The event is called "Old Time Farm Days - Harvest Festival." It runs from noon to 4:00 p.m., so please be sure to swing by and check out the Schick-Ostolasa Farmstead ... 5006 W. Farm Ct., Hidden Springs, ID 83714. Janie will be showing her antique doll collection, while Jodi, Jaenne, Ann and Phyllis will be doing the sheepherding demonstrations behind the barn area. We will have our new banner on display at the booth, so come check it out!

Dianne Deal has been doing a great job of weekly lessons at Ohadi Ranch. With daylight getting shorter and shorter, and all of the events she's involved in, the month of October will be quite busy for her. Janie is offering her place up for "dirt time" to anyone who would like to practice (please make an appointment with Janie directly) and we are hoping to bring in a guest trainer. I will post more information as soon as I have it. Dianne's lessons will resume in November. Watch the Google Group for the latest updates.

We've scheduled our fun day for January 1, 2010. Several years in a row (excluding last year), we have had exceptional weather on New Year's Day, so we decided to do it again. We will have instinct testing available for anyone who is interested in bring out a dog to see if it will work stock, but we will also have all of the other arenas available to work in, including ducks. The garage will be warm and toasty from the propane heater, and we'll do a potato bar pot luck! So mark this on your calendar.

And back by popular demand ...

February 6, 2010 - we will be bringing Dianne Deal back for another one-day clinic. This will no doubt fill fast, so please watch for the announcement here on the website! This will be limited and entries will be determined by the postmark date.

Instinct Test Wrap-Up

What a fun day! We had ten people come out and instinct test and/or work their dogs today. What a great bunch! There was lot of chatter about future lessons and upcoming events and plans for their dogs! We hope to see them out here again soon.

Gem State Herding presents an AHBA sanctioned trial

Dates: Sat, Oct. 31 and Sun, Nov. 1
Location: Ohadi Ranch, 17122 Locust Ln, Caldwell, ID
Judges: Don Couch and Maxine Schvaneveldt
Classes offered: HRD I, II & III (sheep), HTD I, II & III (sheep) and HTAD I, II & III (sheep and ducks)

You can pay for your entries through PayPal if you'd like. There are two ways:

1. If you have a pay pal account, you can log in and just click "send money" and send it to GemStateHerding@gmail.com; or

2. If you do not have a PayPal account, you can email to Gem State Herding and say you want to pay through PayPal. We will send a "Request Money" through Pay Pal.

Be sure to mail your entries if you decide to pay with PayPal.
